Artificial intelligence, Organoid intellingence, Quantum intelligence, Biological intelligence, Neuromorphic intelligence and Transhumanist musings

About

Following the transhumanist/posthumanist discourse closely (one which says it is our natural evolution to merge with AI), I was compelled to investigate what is consciousness, what makes us human and therefore different to artificial intelligence. Our ability to experience awe seemed to be one major aspect but in the time I was doing the research into the science of awe...scientists were busy making computer chips from human brain cells and making them play games of Pong. With artificial superintelligence already upon us, one that may threaten our very existence, perhaps it is time to sit back, pause and reflect on what we are actually doing instead of impulsively trying to innovate the next big thing. Ethical questions are a must.

"Another key ethical consideration for neural computers is whether they could develop some form of consciousness and experience pain. Would neural computers be more likely to have experiences than silicon-based ones? In the Pong experiment, Dishbrain is exposed to noisy and unpredictable stimuli when it gets a response wrong (the paddle misses the ball), and predictable stimuli when it gets it right. It is at least possible that a system like this might start to experience the unpredictable stimuli as pain, and the predictable stimuli as pleasure." https://lnkd.in/gcnmWZSv

I created this piece as an ethical alarm bell, perturbed by the acceleration of scientific and technical progression. The work is a nod to Rodin's Gates of Hell with a contemporary twist. The intention for this piece was two-fold: to provoke thought and emotion, and to create a believable sculptural space. The glass-like effect has come as a result of my own experimentation with inks as I find that their translucency conveys light effectively and the layering helps me achieve a 3D quality. My process involved creating chaotic, energetic markings then layering the shapes until they merged into believable space.

AI Vitro Infiltration is a play on the term "In vitro fertilisation". From the uterus holding her baby on the right to the mother with her glass helmet protecting her child on the left, AI Vitro Infiltration questions the future of AI and what it will mean for humans. Are we but organs and chemicals or is there more?
